Jim Himes, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 4th district since 2009, posted a series of tweets on July 22 and July 23, 2025, commenting on issues related to misinformation and historical events.

On July 22, Himes wrote, "Because it is a big lie, Jim. And everyone knows it." On the following day, he referenced the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), stating, "Leading to the breathless release of information from ODNI that the Japanese did not, in fact, bomb Pearl Harbor." Later that same day, Himes cited an intelligence community assessment from 2017: "2/ In 2017, the IC wrote: 'Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the U.S. Presidential Election. Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the U.S. democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency.'"

Himes’ comments come amid ongoing discussions about election interference and public trust in official narratives. The intelligence community report he referenced detailed Russian efforts during the 2016 presidential election cycle to sow discord within the United States.

Himes has served as a congressional representative for Connecticut’s 4th District since replacing Chris Shays in 2009. Born in Lima, Peru in 1966 and currently residing in Cos Cob, Himes graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1988.
