Jim Himes, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 4th district since 2009, criticized the Trump administration’s foreign policy and recent political commentary in a series of tweets posted on July 19 and July 20, 2025.

On July 19, Himes wrote: "The US used to support and promote democracy abroad. Now the Trump administration is doing all it can to support authoritarians everywhere. In this case, supporting a leader who tried a coup in Brazil. Birds of a feather…." He did not specify which Brazilian leader he was referring to but implied alignment between the former U.S. administration and authoritarian figures.

Later that day, Himes posted about local weather conditions: "77 degrees, 0 humidity, cloudless skies. Paradise."

On July 20, Himes responded critically to public remarks by Tulsi Gabbard regarding national intelligence officials: "This is utter nonsense. Completely. Odd that then CIA Director Pompeo didn’t say any of this. Or that none of the six DNIs in Trump’s first term said any of it. Once again, @DNIGabbard is trashing her own people in an attempt to regain Trump’s favor or to distract from the". The tweet referenced former CIA Director Mike Pompeo and accused Gabbard of undermining intelligence community colleagues.
