Jim Himes, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 4th district since 2009, shared several opinions and observations on his Twitter account on July 18, 2025. The posts addressed topics ranging from art history to media freedom and travel in Washington, D.C.

In one tweet posted at 13:38 UTC, Himes wrote, "Then the post-modernists spawned the Epstein school. As street art, it co-opted the methods of the French Salon de Refusés. But by embracing only half of the Hegelian dialect, it scandalized the bourgeoisie without interrogating its core privileges.

#FalseConsciousness https://t.co/nwdggCsipz".

A subsequent message at 13:50 UTC offered practical advice for travelers in Washington: "Best way to the airport in DC https://t.co/oX631Vo8l1".

Later that day at 17:44 UTC, Himes commented on developments in television media and free speech: "CBS cancelled Stephen Colbert’s top-performing show after he called out the network for caving to Trump’s lawsuit. Free speech is fundamental to any democracy, and America deserves more hosts like Stephen, who ask the tough questions.

Edward R. Murrow is rolling in his grave. https://t.co/IhqAruHQJ4".

Jim Himes was born in Lima, Peru in 1966 and currently resides in Cos Cob. He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1988. After replacing Chris Shays in Congress over fifteen years ago, Himes has continued to represent his district while engaging with cultural and political issues online.
