Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim held a press conference with Connecticut State Comptroller Sean Scanlon and members of the Bridgeport Delegation to discuss the many updates and reforms that have taken place during this year’s legislative session.

Many of the highlights during the press conference included increased City funding, education funding, tax cuts, housing reforms, and many other important concerns expressed by the City. The legislators also noted efforts to pass SB 1102; a bill that will require police officers to inform drivers of the reasoning behind being stopped or pulled over by an officer. Partnered with these updates, reforms to the Connecticut Municipal Employees Retirement System (CMERS) were also included in the press conference as these reforms will help municipalities save money on the contributions made towards pension plans.

“Our Bridgeport Delegation has done phenomenal work this year in Hartford,” Mayor Ganim stated. “They have continued to power through to make effective changes not only for Bridgeport but for Connecticut as a whole. With the CMERS reform and other updates reported, I’m excited to know that we can continue to work for our residents and for those that work as municipal employees.”

Comptroller Sean Scanlon said, “I am grateful for the municipal and labor leaders who were willing to roll up their sleeves to get meaningful reform on the Connecticut Municipal Employees Retirement System. Together, we crafted a win-win deal that will decrease costs for municipalities while ensuring our public employees continue to have access to a pension. I applaud the General Assembly for upholding these provisions and look forward to it being signed into law by Governor Lamont.”

Other updates that were made during the press conference included, Total Mortgage Arena Bonding/Public Health, Honey Locust Grocery Store, tax incentive updates, funds for flood control, John Lewis Voting Rights, and early voting updates.
