Innovation: 3 patents granted in Shelton in week ending Aug. 8

There were three patents granted in Shelton in the week ending Aug. 8, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is unchanged from the week before. Patents included a method for monitoring power consumption of a load coupled to a power switch.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 8 belonged to Hubbell Incorporated who filed in May 1, 2019.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
