The Sacred Heart University women’s lacrosse team lost to Quinnipiac, 16-9, in their final regular season game on April 18 at Campus Field. Senior attacker Maggie Araneo led the Pioneers with five points during the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup.

The game also served as Senior Day for Sacred Heart, which recognized nine graduating players before the start. The loss leaves Sacred Heart with a record of 5-10 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while Quinnipiac improves to 9-7 and matches SHU’s conference record.

Araneo scored three goals and added two assists, finishing her collegiate career at Campus Field with a total of 96 career goals and 134 points. Other top performers included Nadine Galiano and Erin Herrold, who each contributed two goals. Taylor Farace recorded one goal along with four draw controls.

Sacred Heart started strong by scoring twice within the first five minutes but saw its early lead slip away as Quinnipiac rallied late in both the first and second quarters. The Bobcats dominated the third quarter by scoring all four goals, creating an insurmountable gap heading into the final period.

Despite efforts from Araneo and her teammates in the fourth quarter, including an assist to Galiano that set the final score at 16-9, Sacred Heart was unable to close the deficit. Goalkeeper Madalynn Eder-Linell made nine saves for SHU while allowing fourteen goals; Margaret Morgan allowed two more during her time in net.

With this result concluding their regular season schedule, Sacred Heart will look ahead to postseason opportunities or future campaigns as several seniors wrap up their collegiate careers.
