Sacred Heart University women’s rowing head coach Luke Wilhelm announced the team’s 2024 spring schedule on Jan. 17. The announcement follows the Pioneers’ fourth-place finish at last year’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, which was the best in program history.

The upcoming season will feature five regattas, including a home race to honor senior day. Wilhelm said, “Our spring schedule reflects our improvement in the fall. We are going to more multi-lane, multi-day regattas with the goal of improving our racing acumen. By the time we line up at our conference champ finals, we will have a great amount of racing experience under our belts without compromising our training this spring. We have a long road before we line ’em up, but I’m very excited for every date on the schedule. Let’s get rolling, Pio Navy.”

The Pioneers will begin their season at UConn on March 29, competing against both UConn and Marist. On April 13, they will travel to Cherry Hill, New Jersey for the Knecht Cup. The following weekend includes competition in Worcester, Massachusetts against Lehigh, MIT, Boston College, UConn, and Holy Cross.

Senior day and an alumni party are scheduled for May 4 during a home regatta on the Housatonic River. The season concludes with the MAAC Championship on May 19 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. A victory there would qualify Sacred Heart University for the NCAA Rowing Championship in Bethel, Ohio from May 31 to June 1.

The team aims to build on its recent success and gain valuable experience throughout these events as it looks toward championship weekend.
