The Sacred Heart University softball team announced on Apr. 24 that it will adjust its final home series of the season against Quinnipiac due to impending weather. The doubleheader, originally scheduled for later in the weekend, has been moved up to Friday at 2:30 p.m., with Senior Day ceremonies now set before Sunday’s noon game at Pioneer Park.

These changes are important as they allow both teams to complete their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matchups while ensuring that graduating players are properly recognized. Senior Day will honor not only Sacred Heart’s own seniors—Morgan Teodosio, Cayla Nista, and Carly Koltko—but also the seven graduating members of the Quinnipiac roster.

Last weekend, Sacred Heart faced Marist in a challenging three-game series at home, suffering losses in all contests. Despite the setbacks, Charlene Davis led her team with a .444 batting average over the series. Sam Kowalski contributed both offensively and defensively, recording two RBIs and two doubles while striking out ten batters across 11.2 innings pitched.

Kowalski continued to demonstrate her value as a two-way player during the Saturday finale against Marist by pitching a complete game and driving in two of her team’s three runs. She allowed just two earned runs and struck out five batters over seven innings.

Quinnipiac enters the upcoming series ranked fifth in the MAAC standings with an 11-7 league record. The Bobcats recently swept Manhattan in a doubleheader after losing two of three games at Merrimack. Senior pitcher Sydney Horan leads their staff nationally with 21 complete games and ranks among national leaders in innings pitched and starts this season. Junior infielder Sofia Vega tops Quinnipiac’s offense with team highs in runs scored and RBIs.

After concluding their home schedule this weekend, Sacred Heart will travel to Merrimack for a MAAC doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 29.
