The Sacred Heart University men’s soccer team lost 2-1 to Siena in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship game on Nov. 16 at Park Ave Field. This defeat was the Pioneers’ first home loss of the season, while Siena improved its record to 9-5-4.

The match was significant as it marked the first time Sacred Heart hosted a home MAAC championship game in program history. Despite outshooting Siena 22-7 and holding an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal, Sacred Heart could not overcome a strong performance by Siena goalkeeper Bennet Glinder, who made nine saves.

Siena took the lead early in the second half when Lucas Almeida scored off a pass from Martin Piedeleu in the 50th minute. The Saints extended their lead with a penalty kick converted by Piedeleu in the 78th minute. Sacred Heart responded quickly, with David Garcia Gallego assisting Brady Poor for a goal less than a minute later, narrowing the score to 2-1.

In the closing minutes, Sacred Heart had an opportunity to tie after being awarded a penalty kick in the 89th minute. However, Ivan Morcillo’s attempt was stopped by Glinder, securing Siena’s victory.

Brady Poor scored his third goal of the season for Sacred Heart. The Pioneers finished their season with a record of 9-4-5.
