Sacred Heart men’s soccer defeats Quinnipiac 3-0 to stay unbeaten in MAAC play

The Sacred Heart University men’s soccer team defeated Quinnipiac University 3-0 on Oct. 1, remaining undefeated in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at the Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden.

The win keeps Sacred Heart’s conference record perfect at 3-0, while their overall record improves to 4-3-2. Quinnipiac falls to a 1-2 mark in the MAAC and an overall record of 3-6-1.

Danny Istambouli opened the scoring for Sacred Heart just four minutes into the match, giving his team an early lead. In the second half, Ivan Morcillo added another goal after receiving a pass from Johan Bermudez in the 51st minute. Zach Lorenz capped off the victory with a top-shelf shot following a no-look heel pass from Brady Poor in the 82nd minute.

Goalkeeper Luca Marinelli recorded two saves and kept a clean sheet for Sacred Heart, improving his personal record to four wins, one loss, and one draw this season. For Quinnipiac, Nickolas Cardona made five saves but allowed three goals.

Istambouli and Lorenz each scored their first goals of the season during this match. Bermudez also earned his first point of the year with his assist on Morcillo’s goal.

Sacred Heart will continue its MAAC schedule against Mount Saint Mary (MD) on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Park Ave Field.
