The Sacred Heart University men’s cross country team finished third at the Brown University Bear Invitational on Sept. 28 in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
The result highlights a strong performance by the team, with three runners finishing in the top 30 and contributing to the overall team score.
Matthew Vene led Sacred Heart with a time of 27:00.82 over the eight-kilometer course, placing 21st overall and marking his first top finish for the team this season. Demetri Franzese and Giovanni Prestipino followed closely, both finishing just over the 27-minute mark to secure spots within the top 30. Anthony Esposito contributed to the team’s scoring with a time of 27:40.65, while Owen Delisle rounded out Sacred Heart’s top five with a finish of 27:56.81.
Patrick Devine also had a solid race day, taking 47th place overall with a time of 28:10.99. Colin Trolio completed the group of potential scorers for Sacred Heart by finishing in 67th place as the Pioneers secured third place in team scoring. Full results are available online.
The Pioneers will compete next at the 112th Annual New England Cross Country Championships on October 12.
