The Sacred Heart University men’s cross-country team finished in 37th place out of 38 teams at the Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships on Nov. 14.
The result highlights the team’s efforts in a competitive field, with several first-year athletes leading the way for Sacred Heart. The event took place in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.
Jake Harold, a first-year runner, was the top finisher for the Pioneers, placing 188th overall with a time of 32:21.9. He was followed by Aidan Cichocki (224th place, 33:04.4), Michael Maresca (241st place, 33:40.4), Demetri Franzese (243rd place, 33:45.2), and Alexander Armendariz (248th place, 33:54.7). Harjaap Singh and Matthew Vene rounded out the scoring for Sacred Heart, finishing in 257th and 258th places respectively.
Notably, all three of Sacred Heart’s top finishers were first-year students on the team.
The team’s performance at regionals concludes their season as they look to build on this experience for future competitions.
