The Sacred Heart Pioneers men’s cross country team began their 2025 season on Aug. 30 at Stony Brook, finishing fifth out of seven teams.

The meet marked the start of the new campaign for the Pioneers, providing an early look at both returning athletes and newcomers. Michael Mason led Sacred Heart with a 16th place finish, while first-year runner Jake Harold made his collegiate debut by placing 18th.

Aidan Cichocki also finished in the top 25, coming in at 25th place. Other contributors included Matthew Vene in 32nd and Demetri Franzese in 35th. Michael Maresca and Thomas Maresca rounded out the scoring for Sacred Heart, finishing in 36th and 38th places respectively.

The team’s performance highlighted both experience and emerging talent as they competed against six other squads. The event served as an opportunity for runners to set a baseline for improvement throughout the season.

Looking ahead, the Pioneers will compete again on Saturday, September 13 when they travel to Montgomery, New York for the Manhattan University Fall Invitational.
