Sacred Heart men’s cross country competes at MAAC Championships

The Sacred Heart University men’s cross country team participated in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2, marking its first appearance at the event.

This competition was significant for Sacred Heart as it represented the team’s debut in the MAAC Championships, providing an opportunity to measure performance against new conference opponents.

First-year runner Demetri Franzese led the Pioneers with a time of 26:21.4 in the morning’s 8-kilometer race. Teammates Matthew Vene and Michael Mason finished close behind with times of 26:29.6 and 26:48.9, respectively. Owen Delisle and Anthony Esposito rounded out the scoring positions for Sacred Heart, recording times of 26:49.4 and 27:05.

Colin Trolio and Jordan Leon contributed as reserve scorers, helping the team secure a 12th place finish overall at the meet. Full results from the championships are available online.

Looking ahead, Sacred Heart will compete next at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships on Friday, November 15 at Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. Additional information about upcoming events can be found on sacredheartpioneers.com.
