Sacred Heart lost to Marist in the final game of their baseball series on May 3, with a score of 10-6.

The game saw Sacred Heart take an early lead after Peter Link singled and later scored on Will Rudolph’s RBI single. However, Marist responded with a six-run second inning that shifted the momentum. The Pioneers tried to close the gap throughout the game but could not overcome Marist’s offense.

Top performers for Sacred Heart included Peter Link, who went three-for-three with two runs, one RBI, and two stolen bases. Will Rudolph contributed three hits and two RBIs while Ronan Donohue added two hits and an RBI. On the mound, Jase Schueller pitched five innings in relief, allowing three earned runs and striking out five batters.

The Pioneers rallied in several innings. In the third inning, JW Fitzgerald started a comeback that brought Sacred Heart within two runs of Marist. Later efforts included Dave Yorke scoring on a sacrifice fly by Link in the sixth inning and another run in the ninth after Rudolph doubled.

Despite these efforts, Sacred Heart was unable to catch up as Marist continued to add runs throughout the game. The loss brings Sacred Heart’s record to 15-27 overall and 11-12 in conference play.

Looking ahead, Sacred Heart will host Central Connecticut State University at home for a midweek matchup scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 at 3 p.m.
