Proclamations: Happy 225th Birthday, Trumbull | Booth Hill Named a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School

PROCLAMATION: WHEREAS, Trumbull  was the home of the Golden Hill Paugussett Indian Nation for thousands  of years before the English settlement was made in 1639; and  

WHEREAS, Trumbull, CT began in 1725 as a fledgling community formerly known as  North Stratford when residents living in the northern part of Stratford  petitioned the colony of Connecticut to establish their own separate  village; and  

WHEREAS, they wished to call their  new village Nickol’s Farm after the family who lived in its center but  it was named Unity instead by the colony; and  

WHEREAS, Unity merged with the Village of Long Hill to its west to form the Town of North Stratford in 1744; and  

WHEREAS, in  the late 1780s, North Stratford began to petition the Connecticut  General Assembly seeking independence from Stratford. The Assembly  finally granted full town rights in October 1797 and named the new town  after Jonathan Trumbull– a merchant, patriot, statesman who was the  only governor of an English colony to side with the colonists; and 

WHEREAS, the Town of Trumbull continues to grow and thrive and has been recognized  as a wonderful place to raise a family as well as a place to retire, and   

WHEREAS, Trumbull celebrates its 225th birthday this year; 

NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki  A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman  of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby wish the Town of Trumbull  A HAPPY 225th BIRTHDAY.  

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Town of Trumbull to be affixed on the 18th day of September in the year 2022.
