Jim Himes, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 4th district since 2009, shared details of an unusual encounter with bees on his Twitter account on May 5, 2026.
In a post from that morning, Himes recounted, “So this morning I’m drinking my coffee minding my own business when I notice a swarm of bees giving me side eye. Probably 12,000 or so of them. 1/4 https://t.co/QQ9ZDwrmIP” (May 5, 2026). He followed up by describing his response to the situation: “Fortunately, I had a spare deep hive body in the garage so I suited up to capture them. 2/4 https://t.co/co2voKCzHm” (May 5, 2026).
Earlier that day, Himes also posted a brief message commending others’ efforts: “Good work guys https://t.co/9rfCGod1uN” (May 5, 2026).
Himes has served in Congress since replacing Chris Shays in 2009 and is known for representing Connecticut’s southwestern region. Born in Lima, Peru in 1966 and currently residing in Cos Cob at age 56, he graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1988.
