Jim Himes, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 4th district since 2009, recently shared updates on social media about beekeeping and local food prices.

On May 5, Himes described relocating a bee swarm: “Was a sporty couple of minutes but after a few strong shakes they had a new home. And the honey harvest will be big this year! 3/4”. In another post from the same day, he provided advice for those encountering bee swarms: “It’s swarming season, and a swarm can be a daunting sight. But this is how bees reproduce at the colony level. If you see one, call a local beekeeper. They will be thrilled to take it off your hands. 4/4”.

Two days later, on May 7, Himes commented on food prices while enjoying traditional fare: “Mustard and sauerkraut. Still unbeatable. Even at $7 a pop.”

Himes has served in Congress since replacing Chris Shays in 2009 and currently resides in Cos Cob. Born in Lima, Peru in 1966, he graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1988.
