Jim Himes, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 4th district since 2009, commented on international affairs and domestic policy issues in a series of tweets posted on January 3, 2026.
In his first tweet at 16:09 UTC, Himes addressed the political situation in Venezuela and the role of U.S. foreign policy. He wrote, “Maduro is a brutal thug who stole the election, but removing even an illegitimate leader without a next-day plan is dangerous and irresponsible (see Libya, Iraq, Afg, etc). Trump must put forward a clear strategy for stability in Venezuela or risk a descent into chaos.”
Later that day at 16:54 UTC, Himes questioned the state of healthcare access in both Venezuela and the United States by tweeting, “I wonder if Venezuelans will get affordable healthcare before Americans do.”
In his final post of the day at 23:03 UTC, he reflected on recent global military actions and their implications for China and Russia. He tweeted, “So what lessons did the Chinese learn in the last 24 hours about the legitimacy of unprovoked military attacks on neighboring countries? How about the Russians?”
Himes has served as Connecticut’s representative since replacing Chris Shays in 2009. Born in Lima, Peru in 1966 and currently residing in Cos Cob, he holds a BA from Harvard University (1988).
