Jim Himes, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 4th district since 2009, posted a series of comments on social media reflecting on American values and recent events.
On February 6, 2026, Himes wrote, “Sometimes prayers go unanswered. And just one day after the National Prayer Breakfast.” On February 9, he addressed the concept of patriotism by stating, “That there is only one proper way to love America (and that it coincides remarkably with MAGA sensibilities) is one of the most un-American ideas possible.” The following day, Himes commented on historical parallels: “Put this into Elizabethan English and it’s Massachusetts Bay Colony in the late 1600s.”
Himes has represented Connecticut’s 4th District in Congress since replacing Chris Shays in 2009. He was born in Lima, Peru in 1966 and currently resides in Cos Cob. Himes graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988.
