Jim Himes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 4th district since 2009, commented on recent political developments and market reactions through a series of social media posts on April 1 and April 2, 2026.

On April 1, Himes made a lighthearted post about the so-called “Gang of 8,” stating: ” Breaking News: After years of being the least cool gang ever, the Gang of 8 will invite Mr. Robert Earl Bell to join. Security clearances expected soon. Rehearsals start Monday. With nine members, we’ll need a new name. Thoughts?”

Later that evening and into the next day, Himes shifted focus to economic concerns following remarks from the president. On April 2, he posted: “The president spoke for 19 minutes. During which the price of a barrel of oil went up another $4.00.” He continued with an update: “Since the president’s speech an hour ago, oil prices are up $5 a barrel and stock market futures are down 1%. Going to be a wild night on Truth Social. And I’m still not sure what the hell he said.”

Himes has represented Connecticut’s 4th District in Congress since succeeding Chris Shays in 2009 and resides in Cos Cob. Born in Lima, Peru in 1966, Himes is also an alumnus of Harvard University (BA, class of 1988).
