Sacred Heart University announced on May 27 that five members of its softball team have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District list. The honorees are Kaelyn Freed, Emily Heath, Carly Koltko, Sam Kowalski, and Morgan Teodosio.
The recognition highlights student-athletes who excel both in their sport and academically. To qualify for the CSC Academic All-District honor, athletes must be starters or key reserves, have sophomore or higher standing, and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50.
Freed played in 37 games as a junior this season, starting in 34 and playing center field throughout. She recorded a .946 fielding percentage with 34 putouts and contributed nine runs offensively. Freed is majoring in Psychology with a cumulative GPA of 3.61.
Heath appeared in 20 games as a pitcher, making 12 starts and earning four wins with three complete games and 25 strikeouts. She led Sacred Heart to two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victories and holds a near-perfect GPA of 3.98 as a Biology major.
Koltko participated in all but one game during her senior year, splitting time between first base and designated player roles. She tied for second on the team with four home runs and was third with 21 RBIs while graduating with a degree in Health Science: Health Care Administration and maintaining a GPA of 3.52.
Kowalski started 25 games as pitcher out of her total of 33 appearances, earning twelve wins for the team along with a career-low earned run average of 2.17 and career-best strikeout total of 180 over 171 innings pitched. She also contributed at the plate with a .325 batting average while studying Psychology with a GPA of 3.62.
Teodosio had her best season yet as a senior, setting personal records in several offensive categories including batting average (.306), hits (38), RBIs (27), runs (17), doubles (5), triples (2), and home runs (4). She completed her Finance degree this spring holding a GPA of 3.67.
The announcement underscores the balance these student-athletes maintain between academic achievement and athletic performance.
