Fairfield University Women’s Tennis defeated Niagara University 4-1 on April 19 during Senior Day at the Tennis Club of Trumbull. The Stags won four singles matches to secure the team victory.

The result brings Fairfield’s season record to 7-12 overall and 5-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, while Niagara falls to an even 8-8 overall and a conference record of 4-4. With this win, Fairfield remains in contention for a spot in the postseason as they await the official tiebreaker decision from the MAAC following Monday’s match between Mount St. Mary’s and Rider. Only the top four teams will advance to next weekend’s MAAC Tournament.

Due to weather conditions, Sunday’s match was moved indoors and started with singles action only; doubles matches were not played. After Niagara took an early lead by winning at #1 singles, Fairfield responded with victories in four consecutive flights. Anna Neyestani tied the score with her win at #2 singles, followed by Maeve Cassidy securing another point at #6.

Maria Gell brought Fairfield close to clinching after winning her match at #5 singles, while Sophia Harris sealed the team victory with a win at #6. Nicolette Loeffler was leading her third set at #4 when play was stopped after Fairfield clinched.

Details regarding next week’s MAAC Championship will be provided once tournament seeding is confirmed by conference officials.
