Sacred Heart University softball player Elle Leckrone was named to the Second Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the All-Rookie Team, according to a May 5 announcement from the league office.
Leckrone’s recognition comes after a strong debut season in which she played a key role for the Pioneers. Her performance helped Sacred Heart secure the eighth seed in its first MAAC Championship tournament, finishing with an overall record of 21-26 and an 11-13 mark in conference play.
Leckrone earned her Second Team selection as a designated player and also received All-Rookie honors. She follows recent achievements by other Sacred Heart first-year players, including Cierra Bender, who made the All-Northeast Conference First Team last season, and Sam Kowalski, who was named NEC Rookie of the Year in 2023. Over 44 games with 43 starts this season, Leckrone led the team with a .336 batting average, collecting 44 hits and scoring 21 runs. She also recorded 13 runs batted in, eight doubles, one home run, and secured one pitching win.
In addition to Leckrone’s awards, ten Sacred Heart student-athletes were named to the 2025 MAAC Softball All-Academic Team. The honorees are Natalie Aiello, Kaelyn Freed, Genevieve Gleason, Emily Heath, Sydney Hess, Carly Koltko, Sam Kowalski, Cayla Nista, Allie Ortiz and Morgan Teodosio. To qualify for this academic honor, student-athletes must have completed two semesters at their institution and maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
The Pioneers will begin their postseason campaign as the eighth seed in the MAAC Softball Championship on Tuesday, May 6. They are scheduled to face fifth-seeded Canisius in a single-elimination game at Marist’s Gartland Athletic Field in Poughkeepsie.
