Dante D’Amore and Alex Ungar of the Sacred Heart University baseball team were named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Second Team, according to a May 19 announcement from the conference office.
The recognition highlights the strong performances of both seniors during the regular season. D’Amore was selected at first base after posting a .306 batting average, recording 59 hits, 15 doubles, and five home runs. Defensively, he contributed with 374 putouts and 28 assists while maintaining a .975 fielding percentage.
Ungar earned his spot on the team as an outfielder. He led offensively with a .363 batting average, collecting 65 hits, 23 doubles, two triples, and 11 home runs along with 44 runs batted in. Ungar also leads the MAAC in stolen bases with 31 and in doubles. In right field, he posted a .981 fielding percentage with 98 putouts and five assists.
The Pioneers have completed their regular season schedule and are set to compete in the MAAC Championship at Clover Stadium in Pamona, New York. Their first game is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21 at 11 a.m., where they will face the lowest remaining seed.
The selections of D’Amore and Ungar reflect their contributions throughout the season as Sacred Heart prepares for postseason play.
